Brutalist to Modernist

Brief: The original property was a 1960s semidetached bungalow that had been in the clients ownership for over 10 years, primarily used as a holiday home. A decision was made to give the property a complete renovation, taking the building back to its foundations.

The homeowner was an existing client of Majik House and therefore chose us to future proof his new home. The Interior Architect who project managed the build was Martin Nealon, who Majik House have worked with on many previous projects in the Lake District. The client and designer both wanted to achieve an automated home that was simple to use and didn’t impact on the limited space available in the property. Security was also a major issue for the client.

Solution: To overcome the limited amount of space the racks and lighting panels had to be assembled in the loft space. Not only did this free up space but it also meant that the client had no visible hardware in the main living areas, the technology was invisible.

Lighting: Control 4 was the method of choice throughout to control the pre-set lighting scenes. The design for the lighting included RGBW colour changing lights in all the bathrooms and Kitchen Dinning areas. The lighting was designed by the interior architect and executed by Majik House.

Audio: Distributed sound was integrated into every room plus the outside areas. Monitor Audio speakers where used and controlled via Control 4. All speakers were mounted into the ceilings to prevent them impacting on the space.

TV: distribution was integrated throughout the property, including a screen above the outdoor hot tub.

Network and Integration: Majik House created a reliable internal Network structure which then allowed for successful 3rd party integration. Heating control was operated via Heat Mizor which allowed for complete control over the property. A Texicom Alarm System was installed which alerts the client when the system has been activated. It can then be disarmed remotely, therefore giving complete peace of mind.
